I am an editor, writer & independent publisher specialising in slow travel, sustainable kit & outdoor swimming with 20 years’ experience commissioning & writing content across print, digital & event platforms

I’ve always found myself drawn towards responsible travel and slower ways of exploring. I love to write features on sustainable travel, rail journeys, off-the-beaten-track destinations, wild swimming, sustainable outdoor kit and exploring on foot. 

Founding independent journal ernest proved to be an ideal vehicle through which to dig deeper into slow travel, and extol the virtues of exploring one place well and establishing a mindset that values curiosity, connection and authenticity. Through its honest, engaging and hopeful storytelling, ernest spoke to readers about the ways we connect to landscape and find wonder in the world.

I have a passion for conceiving new magazine concepts and managing them from initial ideas through to a beautifully-printed product. Whether launching an independent journal, creating a magazine to articulate a hotel’s distinctive location and philosophy, or working on the launch team for a lifestyle title such as Countryfile Magazine, this is where I truly thrive.

I’m based in Somerset, where I spend my spare time exploring local lidos, lakes and community saunas, and hanging out with my five-year-old daughter.

My services

Magazine conception & production

I have launched five magazine titles and have a passion for conceiving new concepts and managing them from initial ideas through to production. I am particularly keen to work with hotel and travel brands to bring their stories to life in print.

Podcast & film

I am a regular co-host on ‘Small Ways to Live Well’ podcast with The Simple Things magazine. I also conceived and commissioned the Waterfront podcast for Canal & River Trust, and produced engaging short films.

Editing

I have been an editor on five magazines, a coffee table book and countless guidebooks, as well as working as a features and commissioning editor for various titles. I am a meticulous sub-editor and proofreader, and an all-round safe pair of hands.

Events curation

I have curated a programme of talks, workshops and immersive experiences for spaces at Wilderness, Green Man, Port Eliot and Caught by the River Thames festivals.

Writing & research

I love telling stories across print and digital platforms, with a particular interest and expertise in slow travel, wild swimming, outdoor kit and lifestyle. I also love interviewing inspiring people about their work and passions.

Outdoor kit expertise

I have 20 years’ expertise testing and reviewing outdoor kit for titles such as Countryfile, BBC Focus, ernest and Outdoor Swimmer, plus good contacts within the industry.
